Breaking: President Trump Avoids Removal From Office

Wikimedia Commons

The U.S. Senate has voted to not remove President  Donald J. Trump from office.

In two votes largely along party lines, on the first count of Abuse of Power, it was guilty 48, not guilty 52.

On the second count of Obstruction of Congress, the vote was 47 guilty, not guilty 53.

To remove a sitting president via impeachment,  67 votes are needed.

Wisconsin's two U.S. Senators were divided. Democrat Tammy Baldwin voted both times in the minority  for guilty. Republican Ron Johnson voted both times in the majority to not convict.

This was the third impeachment trial in U.S. history of a president. All three, Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, were acquitted.
