Census Is Coming April 1 To A Mailbox Near You

U.S. Census

April 1, 2020 is Census Day in America, a time when, by the law of the Constitution, the government attempts to count everyone living in the nation. The count is done every 10 years.

The Rhinelander Common Council Monday heard from Census official Quasan Shaw about the count. He outlined the process...

"Roughly March 15, 2020, every household in the United States will receive a letter, inviting them to take the census. Every household will receive it at their address. If you have a P.O. box you will not receive that letter. You will receive a knock on your door starting April 1.(The census taker) will come and take your information at that point..."

Shaw says this time there are nine questions on the Census form.

He says they're going public early this year so the public has the right information before the scammers get involved...

"..We note there are fake Census websites out there. It's important to note that at the U.S. Census Bureau we don't ask for any personal financial information, your Social Security number, things of that nature....we will ask for your telephone number and address. That is about as personal as we get..."

Shaw says they also count everyone in jail that day, along with homeless shelters, RV parks and the like. He says there are other ways to take the census including over the telephone. He says people with multiple addresses will get a form at their principal address.

Shaw says they need census workers, paid at more than $20 per hour plus mileage. More information is available if you Google U.S. Census 2020. Applications are done online only.
