Some Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest recreational opportunities will be curtailed this year due to tighter budgets. But a spokesperson says the most popular attractions will continue as before. They also want to find out what the public wants for recreation.

Spokesperson Hilary Markin says the majority of visitors will see recreation sites at full service levels. Costs have risen while the number of forest users has dropped. She says about 11 percent of recreational offerings will see less service..

"...some closures of campgrounds and some other areas that are going to have some reduced services. Garbage pickup might not be as often as it has been in the past, There may not be a public water supply available. Some reduced services, but it still will be open and available to the public..."

Markin says they're hoping forest users go to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest websiteand take a survey...

"....what amenities they want when they come visit us. Are they looking for beaches, are they looking for boat ramps, are they looking for campgrounds with flush toilets? We're really looking to gather that public input this year on what they like and maybe what they don't like...."

Markin says they have a mapping tool enabling the public to find a site then put in their comments. They want to know why people come to the forest, what amenities they prefer and other questions.
