Council Member Wants More Contributions From City Workers

The City of Rhinelander's budget hearing is tonight, and one council member hopes to see some changes before the council approves next year's operating numbers.

District 5 council member Dawn Rog  presented a paper to the Finance committee recently noting an analysis by a consulting firm found city employee salaries to be about 8 percent above comparable employees in other communities. Rog said city taxpayers pay much more for health insurance, according to her figures, than comparable.

Rog also notes that the average annual income for Rhinelander residents is $35,000 according to the census while city wages are about $56,000 on average. Rog is requesting that city employees contribute more toward their health insurance.

The public hearing on the 2019 budget is during the council meeting Monday at 6:00 p.m. at city hall
