Counties, Chambers Work To Position Tourism Post-COVID

welovethenorthwoods.com

A group of county and chamber officials from six counties, named Northoods of Wisconsin, have been collaborating to promote tourism to northern Wisconsin since 2011. Partners include the communities in Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida, Price and Vilas counties.

They've rolled out a new effort to restore tourism in the region called "We Love The Northwoods".

Krystal Westfahl of Let’s Minocqua Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce says the consortium was fortunate as communities work toward tourism recovery....

"We're not going to flip a switch here and things will change overnight. This is going to be a long, slow recovery. We are poised in a really good spot to help in that strategy..."

The Northwoods of Wisconsin has a Facebook page "We Love The Northwoods" where the public can share photos and other things. She says they hope businesses join in. Westfahl hopes people share via social media.

She says the phrase 'we're in this together' has been said many times recently, but she wants that to be true. Westfahl says they want to be well-positioned when the COVID crisis lessens..

"We have a three-tiered strategy here. First with advocacy. We want to work with our local businesses. We want to work with our local municipalities so we're all in sync when the opening happens..."
