Democrat Engebretson Wants "Medicare For Everybody"

Engebretson campaign

One of two Democrats vying for the nomination to run against incumbent Republican Sean Duffy for Congress says she would work for a federal health insurance program for everyone.

46-year old Margaret Engebretson of Balsam Lake, in Polk county, was campaigning in the Northwoods recently. She says health insurance coverage needs to be addressed for rural Wisconsin..

"...fighting for a Medicare-For-All Public Health Insurance program. There are several reasons for that. There is a huge chasm between the ultra-wealthy and the majority of Americans income and wealth inequality, which was exacerbated by the 2017 tax bill..."

Engebretson is a 24-year retired veteran of the United States military. She spent three years on active duty working as an Electrician’s Mate in the U.S. Navy followed by twenty-one years in the Naval Reserve and Minnesota Air National Guard. She's concerned about veterans issues...

".."I'm very concerned about the non-stop attempts to privatize the VA, for example. The VA system is a marvel, quite frankly..."

After her military career, Engebretson worked as a union locomotive electrician and train dispatcher beforegraduating from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She worked as a Deputy Sheriff of Corrections at the St. Louis County Jail in Duluth for two and a half years and applied to University of Wisconsin Law School. After earning a law degree, she set up practice in Balsam Lake

. The other Democrat in the race is Dr. Brian Ewert of Marshfield. The winner of the August 14th primary will face long-term incumbent Republican Duffy in November.
