Oneida county has joined in the effort to provide Christmas gifts to the children of Armed Forces members and veters.

Named Operation Christmas Angel, the needs-based program is a new offering of the Oneida County Veterans Service Office.

Veterans Service Officer Tammy Javenkoski says the Oneida county would be a good sponsor of the program..

"...What caught my eye this year is they asked if anybody wanted to collect gifts for this program. For some reason the light bulb went off and we have a lot of space where we could store gifts. A lot of space that's secured where we could store gifts..."

The military member must live in Wisconsin and have served honorably. The family must be in financial need and not receiving gifts from another organization.

Walters says if someone would like to donate, they can do so locally...

"...If they're going to buy gifts it should be for anybody from infant to the age of 18. They have to be new gifts and they have to be unwrapped because this organization has a Christmas wrapping party on Sunday, December 16 and all the gifts will be wrapped on that day. Any gifts new, unwrapped, can be brought to our office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m."

Operation Christmas Angel must receive all requests no later than Saturday, December 1. More information is available at the Oneida County Veterans Service Office
