Fire Danger High in Wisconsin

WAOW Television

Wisconsin DNR officials are issuing very high fire-danger warnings for the next two days.

According to the DNR, in the past week there have been 50 wildfires in the state.

Light-rain forecast on Saturday might not be enough to prevent a fire from spreading.

"Burning permits have been suspended in 36 counties. Debris burning is our number one cause of wildfires in Wisconsin so burning permits are suspended in much of the state. So if people are thinking about any kind of outdoor activity. they need to be really cautious of what the restrictions are," said Amy Luebke, Forestry Specialist with the Department of Natural Resources.

Officials say, if you do start a fire that gets out of control, you'll be responsible for the cost of what it takes to put that fire out.
