As COVID-19 cases continue to spread across the country, many people are wondering what happened to the seasonal flu?

During the 2019 flu season from late September to late December, the CDC reported more than 65,000 cases of influenza nationwide but they say flu activity this season is unusually-low this year.

Judy Burrows, Public Information Officer from the Marathon County Health Department said, "we are having a milder than normal flu season and yes I think we can attribute it to in addition to the masking and hand washing but also we are gathering in smaller groups if we're gathering at all, we're not out of the woods yet."

Officials say even though flu cases are low right-now they could ramp-up.
