Boulder Junction was the first place in Wisconsin to host this type of winter event and preparations continue for the event in a few days.
The 3rd annual Forest Frenzy Winter Triathlon is set for Saturday, February 15. The event combines skiing, snowshoes and fat tire bikes.
Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Theresa Smith....
"...It's a 7.5k cross-country ski. Participants can choose to classic ski or skate ski. A 5k snowshoe and 7.5k fat bike and it's all stationed at the beautiful Camp Manitowish YMCA...."
Smith says while it is an endurance race, it's not a high competition event. She says teams sometimes split the competition among three people.
She says the trails are in good shape as recent cold temperatures have solidified the surface.
Smith says they're taking advanced registrations, though they will take walk-ins ...
"..That will not only include a chip-timed race, but a soup luncheon afterwards. We'll hsve chili, wild rice and vegetarian options and everyone gets a participation medal..."
