FORK To Get Northwoods United Way Funding

Feed Our Rural Kids

Feed Our Rural Kids, or FORK, has been approved to be one of the agencies getting United Way funding in the region.

FORK was organized to provide meals to Northland Pines students from food insecure homes who otherwise might not get a meal during off times or during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Northwoods United Way has twice supported FORK in the last year with funding.

Keith Kantala is an advisor to the FORK board of directors and a grant writer. He says the funding will help set the organization up long term..

"From an operational standpoint, we can do a lot of things with this money that we're able to generate on a yearly basis. But then, anything that is unspent our plans are to add that into the endowment fund for continued operations into the future. So it's a teriffic cause both short term and for long-term sustainability of the organization...."

Nearly half of the students in the Northland Pines School District are on free and reduced lunches. The monies allocated by the Northwoods United Way for 2021 will be raised at the end of the 2020 calendar year, according to Northwoods United Way Executive Director Nancy Sattler.

According to their website, Northwoods United Way supports 28 agencies in Oneida, Vilas and Forest counties.

More information on FORK or Northwoods United Way can visit their websites.
