Former Jailers, Spouse Appear In Forest Co. Court

Three persons arrested last October after an investigation of the Forest County Jail made court appearances.

59 year old Jeanie Pitts of Crandon and 63 year old Melvin Donek of Argonne  are charged with Misconduct in Public Office, theft and other charges. They were jailers at the time of their arrests. Pitts' husband, 59 year old Richard Pitts, is also charged with receiving stolen property.

Jeanie Pitts faces 7 felonies and two misdemeanors, Donek one felony and three misdemeanors, and Richard Pitts faces three felonies.

State and local investigators allege Jeanie Pitts and Melvin Donek were arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, soliciting forgery, delivery of articles to inmates, and misconduct in office. Richard Pitts is also facing theft and misconduct charges.

All three defendants made initial appearances Wednesday. Both Richard and Jeanie Pitts were given $5,000 signature bonds and Donek was given a $2,500 signature bond.

All will be back in court in late March for preliminary hearings.
