Forum Next Month About Employing Youth With Disabilities And Barriers

Rhinelander School District

The community is invited, particularly business owners, to a forum next month to show how young people with disabilities and other barriers can become employed in the workforce.

Shelley Lehman is a special education teacher at Rhinelander High School...

"....and the title is "Employing Young Adults With Barriers" We're specifically going to be discussing what are some ways we can help youth with disabilities or students with other barriers to learn the skills and have the desire to work have our youth be employed in our community...."

Lehman says they will be exploring questions of what can educators and others do better to prepare youth with disabilities and other barriers for work, and the second question is what can be done in the short term to help those young people get jobs? Lehman says among the speakers will be young people who have had success finding jobs...

"...and how they've gone through all the appropriate channels, have been successful and are now working in our community in our area businesses, They will be sharing their success stories and examples of what helped them...."

The forum is March 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hodag Lanes Banquet Center in Rhinelander. A complimentary lunch is provided. Lehman says employers, family members, educators, elected officials and people from organizations and agencies serving youth should attend.

More information is available by calling Shelley Lehman at Rhinelander High School or emailing her there. Registration is requested by March 1.
