Golf Course Consultant Hired, Public Expresses Concerns

Eagle River Municipal Golf Course Facebook

The search for a new golf pro at the Eagle River municipal golf course will be conducted by former golf pro Howard Manske who was hired recently after the council accecpted the resignation of Patti Marquis.

The council meeting was attended by a standing room only crowd who expressed their support for Marquis and disappointment from a lack of response from the city.

Alderman Jerry Burkett provide a reason. “All of us at this table (city council members) have been threatened with being sued,” Burkett said. “We're in a bad situation here and every one of us has been told how bad we are and how folks are going to go to other courses. We're doing everything we can to keep the course open and if they go elsewhere there won't be a course here to come back to.”

Many praised the development of the course under Marquis and expressed concern over programs she started wouldn't continue.

One item that will change is management of the bar and restaurant with the council approving the lease to Dawn and Al Siems of Catch 22 and will be called Albatross Grill. Burkett stated the council didn't ask Marquis to resign “and in fact asked her not to” adding “if you see something wrong, tell us in June or July or August, not in February.”

The council is expected to interview at least two persons for course golf pro in the next two weeks.
