Felony charges against Chad Goll, 32 of Racine, were amended in Vilas County court Monday from 1st degree reckless homicide to 2nd degree reckless homicide in the delivery of drugs causing the death of Daniel Norton, 36 of Eagle River to which Goll pled no contest and was found guilty by Vilas County Judge Neal Niesen, III with sentencing set for May 6.

Two counts of felony delivery of heroin were dismissed but allowed to be read in at sentencing and three other charges were dismissed outright.

Authorities were called to a home on Grandview Drive where they found Norton which an autopsy determined died of heroin overdose.

Goll had left the home and was found and taken into custody at the Edgewater Motel in Eagle River when authorities responded to another suspected overdose. Judge Nielsen indicated the maximum penalty to a Class D felony was 25 years in prison with an initial confinement of 15 years followed by 10 years of supervision. He ordered a presentence report and set sentencing for May 6.

The report is expected to recommend a suggested range of prison time.

Two other homicides are pending in Vilas County with a jury trial set for April 1 for Jeremiah Solis charged with homicide by reckless use of a firearm in the death of Conner Stephans and a pretrial conference set for Michael Fabian on March 5 in the death by intoxicated operation of a motor vehicle on his passenger last May.
