Gov. Evers, Sec. Kolar Hear Veterans Concerns During Call-in

Wisconsin.gov

Governor Tony Evers has suspended several provisions of the Assistance to Needy Veterans Grant (ANVG) program, providing more low-income veterans access to emergency financial aid. The program provides subsistence payments and other health care grants to low income veterans who experience a loss of income.

During a virtual town hall with veterans Thursday, Evers said the suspension of some rules will help speed veterans toward getting some financial assistance...

"Like everyone, many veterans have lost their sources of income. We've eliminated some of the paperwork, loosened some deadlines and stopped requiring some in-person signatures in order to make it easier for those experiencing hardships to get the help they need..."

The program provides financial assistance to veterans who have exhausted other sources of aid. The grants may be used for specified health care and subsistence needs up to maximum grant limits.

To apply for the Assistance for Needy Veterans Grant online, both officials say visitwww.MyWisVets.com.

Veterans may also apply by contacting their County Veterans Service Office or Tribal Veterans Service office.

State Veterans Affairs Secretary Mary Kolar says vigilant work by staff at the state's three veterans homes, has to date, kept COVID away..

"At this time we have no, no cases of COVID-19 at our Wisconsin veterans homes. This includes both staff and members.."

The state-run veterans homes are at King, Chippewa Falls and Union Grove.
