Governor reacts to court decision on masks

The Wisconsin Supreme Court this week overturned Governor Tony Evers mandate to wear masks to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

After the decision, the governor encouraged people to maintain social distancing and the wearing of masks.

“Disappointed with the ruling, but I’m asking the people of Wisconsin to continue on doing what they’re doing.”

Evers says while he doesn't agree with the ruling he does respect the authority of the court.

“I think it’s the wrong decision but at the end of the day, they’re the Supreme Court of Wisconsin and we’ll abide by it.”

Evers says with the state's vaccine numbers going up and case count going down, now is not the time to get lazy.

“We can’t let up.  The last thing we need is more surges in the state and more deaths.”

Evers compared it to a flood, which he says is a constantly changing situation.

“You continue to make those emergency declarations as it happens.”

Evers made his comments shortly after helping to fill a pothole in a southeast Wausau neighborhood as part of a statewide tour Wednesday promoting planned infrastructure spending in the next two-year budget.
