A big check from the state Department of Tourism to the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce to promote a growing event this summer.

Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett presented a $20,000 marketing check to the Chamber.

Chamber Director Dana DeMet says the Joint Effort Marketing grant, or JEM grant, will be used to bring visitors here...

'....the JEM grant we were awarded is for marketing the Boom Lake Log Jam in Rhinelander June 19-21 at Hodag Park. What we're using the money for is targeting markets in central Wisconsin as well as the Fox Valley...."

DeMet thinks the marketing money will work to bring in visitors...

"....really it's a multi-faceted approach to get people  from outside of Rhinelander that may not be familiar with our area to come up and have some fun with us...."

The weekend  event is dedicated to the  logging history of Rhinelander, including professional lumberjack shows, logging equipment displays, live music, and food.  New this year is Boom Lake Log Jam Paddle Race, where a variety of boats and boards will compete on Boom Lake.
