Guild Says He Will Spend Time Listening To Rhinelander Residents

Daniel Guild

RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) -- Former Weston Village Administrator Daniel Guild made it official on Wednesday, signing his new contract to become the city administrator of Rhinelander.

According to a news release from Guild, he spent the afternoon at city hall completing the employment documents with an eye towards officially starting on Monday, September 17th. After that, he says he plans on spending a lot of time listening. "It's a whole new community. There's going to be a lot of people to learn from and get to know," he said. "Certainly I am going to spend a lot of time talking and listening to members of the city council hearing what it is they want to accomplish."

He says taking the job in Rhinelander will be somewhat of a homecoming for him, as Guild was born and raised in Ashland. "It's a Northern community that is popular for tourists and people from out of the area. At the same time, it has an identity that is its own. It's not just a small burb in the middle of nowhere, it has life and energy."

Guild spent six years as Administrator in Weston and has also served in similar capacities in other communities in Wisconsin and Michigan. While his time in Weston may not have ended the way he wanted it to, he says he's still proud of what was accomplished. "I'm certainly not going to judge years’ worth of experiences just because the last few months or weeks weren't all that I hoped that they could have been."

He adds that he remains in touch with some of his former colleagues in Weston who helped him put the Village in a better position both financially and economically. "Those are things that I’m (grateful) that I was able to be a part of and learned from, and I'll be able to take that [experience] into other communities as I move on in my career."

A public meet-and-greet for Guild will be held on Tuesday evening in Rhinelander.
