Habitat For Humanity Northwoods Dedicates 21st Home

Starjournalnow.com

The latest home for a family in need in the Northwoods was dedicated Monday by Habitat for Humanity Northwoods.

The home is located at 912 W. Phillip Street in Rhinelander.

Executive Director Dave Havel says it's taken a lot of effort to get the home completed...

"This is the 21st house that Habitat for Humanity has done, basically about one a year for the last 20 years. This house was started by the Rhinelander High School Trades Class in September of last year. They worked on it for the entire school year basically finished it at the end of the school year. It got moved to the site at that time. For the rest of the summer until now it's in a situation where it's been finished...."

Kelly Craig signed the papers Tuesday and will move in right away. The family has to agree to a mortgage and do work along with volunteers to get the home ready.

At a dedication, she had a variety of emotions...

"...very emotional, grateful, blessed. Ready to start a new beginning. We were renting and it was pretty unsuitable in what we're living in, so we got very lucky...."

Dave Havel says they're already looking for the next home to be built. He says they might consider new construction or rehab on an existing house. He says Habitat serves both Oneida and Vilas counties so it's a matter of matching up a property with the needs of a particular family.. He says he encourages anyone who thinks they might qualify to apply, he says you never know what could happen.
