Industry Spokesperson Says Propane Plentiful For Winter

With colder weather upon us, a propane industry leader reports there's more than enough propane available to heat homes and the price is holding steady.

Governor Tony Evers signed an executive order this week, declaring an energy emergency in Wisconsin, citing increasing demand by farmers to dry corn and a sharply colder spell. The order said the corn processing is about two weeks behind schedule.

But Emma Corning, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Propane Gas Association says Wisconsin is doing just fine with supply and demand of propane...

"There is not a shortage of propane anywhere in the country and the rest of the United States are in full supply. A few years back, the United States was a net importer of propane, but since then, were a net exporter of propane. When you look at our supply levels across the country we are in a really good position and actually up from where we were last year at this time..."

Corning says they have more than enough propane to service customers through the winter. She says while there is no propane shortage, other factors were involved in the executive order...

"...The Executive Order issued by the Governor's office has to do with a logistical issue on the distribution side. It's relating to just the regulations that commercial vehicle drivers have. "

The order gives drivers and energy company owners different rules to operate the vehicles.

250,000 Wisconsinites depend on propane to heat their homes.
