Langlade Board Passes Wheel Tax, Approves Sober Living Facility

This week, Langlade became the 12th state county to enact a vehicle registration fee, or wheel tax. 

The tax is an extra fee on top of the state registration.

The Langlade County Board of Supervisors approved the fee paid only by county residents. The board adopted an annual registration fee of $15 will generate additional revenues of approximately $285,000 for county transportation funding.

Lincoln and Marathon counties have also enacted the wheel tax. The Langlade board had previously turned down another wheel tax request at $20. The fee will go into effect on January 1.

Also, the Langlade county board approved the purchase of property that will become the Sober Living Facility on First Avenue in Antigo. The project is a joint venture between the city of Antigo, Langlade county, and North Central Health Care. The county contributed the property with a purchase price of $130,000. The city has pledged up to $150,000 to support capital improvements. North Central Health Care will staff and operate the facility, and has pledged up to $130,000.
