Large Land Donation To Aid Nicolet College Scholarships

A well-known Northwoods physician has given a donation to Nicolet College that a spokesperson says should benefit students for many years.

Dr. Lee Swank of Rhinelander recently donated a five-acre, waterfront parcel of land to the Nicolet College Foundation which intends to sell the property with proceeds going to fund student scholarships.

Foundation President Heather Schallock says this type of donation provides an opportunity to help many students...

".....Dr. Swank has this vision that perhaps the Nicolet College Foundation could better put the parcel of land that he has in the U.P. on Smoky Lake to use, not so much by utilizing the land but by donating it to the Foundation, he's allowing us to sell it...."

The property features 400 feet of frontage on Smoky Lake, which covers nearly 600 acres. Once the land is sold, the money goes to the Nicolet Foundation, who in turn gives scholarships to students attending the college.

Schallock says many people think a cash donation is the only acceptable way to contribute, but donations like the Swank property are also extremely helpful. The property is listed through Mulleady Realtors. Schallock's office is a Nicolet College.
