Leaders Hoping To Get Senior Meals Back Soon After Fire

en.wikipedia.org

Leaders were still assessing how to move forward after an early Wednesday morning fire destroyed the Lakeland Senior Center in Woodruff.

Oneida County Department on Aging Director Dianne Jacobson says the county operates the senior meals program out of the center. She says it's their primary goal to get that program running again...

"....we've been scrambling on Wednesday and it looks like Friday of this week we will be able to start home delivered meals again. And our goal is to restart the sit-down diners on Monday...."

Jacobson says they've been in touch with people in the meal program. She says while this is not the only source of food for some seniors, it is a key element of their nutrition.

Jacobson wants to remind people that during some times in the winter there are stretches of days where food is not delivered.

Jacobson says they're contacting people getting meals about the situation. She says the tragedy offers an opportunity for people who want to help out to volunteer to help deliver meals..

"....we've actually been in a situation over the last month where we had a waiting list to have home delivered meals because we don't have enough drivers. So if from this tragedy and people are hearing this...I want them to know we've had to put some people on hold..."
