A report of a man on the road at the entrance of Nicolet College in Rhinelander found the man later died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Department reports a call came in shortly before 4:00 p.m. of a male lying face down at the Highway "G" and Nicolet College entrance.
The person had a gunshot wound and a gun was on the ground nearby. Responders attempted to save the man's life, but he died shortly after at St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander.
The Sheriff's Department reports the initial investigation indicates a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The campus and public were not in danger. The medical examiner will continue the investigation.
