Marathon County Jail Inmates Test Positive for COVID-19, Jail to Temporarily Restrict Access

Marathon County Sheriff's Office Facebook

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office says a number of inmates in the jail have tested positive for COVID-19.  It did not say how many.

The Sheriff’s Office said the inmates has been incarcerated for a varied amount of time and were likely exposed by a person who was most recently housed with them, with no symptoms or close contacts.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with the Marathon County Health Department to investigate and follow up with those who may have been in contact with these inmates during their infectious period.

The Marathon County Jail will be restricting all inmate movement and professional visitor access until Monday, November 9.

Until that time, the public can continue to visit via video and at the jail as visitation does not require the public to have unrestricted contact with jail staff or inmates.

The Marathon County Jail announced its first confirmed case of COVID-19 on July 21. It said it has had positive cases that were being managed since that time.
