Mary Hoeft Questions Duffy's Campaign Money

Mary Hoeft for Congress

The Democrat challenging Republican incumbent Sean Duffy for the House of Representatives seat in northern Wisconsin has challenged Duffy's taking of money from bankers while chairing a committee over seeing financial services.

Mary Hoeft says Duffy taking the money from bankers while chairing the House Financial Services Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee is questionable....

".....all of that attention, on the top 1 percent, took $300,000 in political contributions from bankers even though he chairs the banking oversight committee. At the very least, Congressman Duffy needed to know that that was an ethical dilemma...."

She says she questions Duffy's actions to change laws that would allow lenders to use practices that brought about the housing bubble and was a key contributor to the Great Recession.

Hoeft is a political newcomer and teaches at UW-Barron county in Rice Lake. She says, if elected, she will work to find ways to fund more education so people can get more highly skilled manufacturing jobs. She won the Democratic primary August 9. We reached out for a response from Congressman Duffy’s campaign office but a comment was not returned for this story.
