Mass Flu Vaccine Clinic Set For Upcoming Weeks At Rhinelander Schools

CDC

People of all ages are invited to a mass flu vaccine clinic offered at Rhinelander High School and James Williams Middle School next week.

There has been an early flu season in Wisconsin.

Rhinelander District School Nurse Kerri Schmidt details the clinic...

"...On Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., we are hosting...the Oneida County Health Department nurses, at Rhinelander High School for the mass flu clinic for the community. And then again on Tuesday, October 29 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at James Williams Middle School...."

She says flu vaccine is free for children 18 and under but parents or guardian(s) must be present with their child at the time of vaccination. Flu vaccine is also available for adults 19 years and up. There is a fee for the adult vaccinations, but the Health Department does take some forms of insurance.

Schmidt says they recommend young people get the vaccinations..

"...because we want to keep the children healthy and in school and in all their extra curricular activities. We want to protect those people who are immuno-surpressed. Some people can't get the vaccine. Most people can. There are also people with chronic health issues such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy and other chronic illness that should get vaccinated...."

Schmidt says when the person arrives at the clinic, the nurse will help them find the flu vaccine best for them.

More information is at the Oneida County Health Department. She says the best place to get more information on the vaccines is to go to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention websiteand key in the words 'flu vaccine'.
