Memorial Day Observances Begin Saturday In Harshaw

Saturday morning is an annual Memorial Day observance that includes a motorcycle procession honoring a Wisconsin Medal of Honor recipient that begins many observances in the Northwoods.

The Veterans Memorial Ceremony is Saturday morning at 11:30 at Union Grove Cemetery in Harshaw. A key component of the ceremony is a procession of motorcycles from Tomahawk as organizer Rick Smith explains...

"..The Veterans Memorial Ride, it's called the Einer H. Ingman, Jr. Veterans Memorial Motorcycle Honor Procession. That came about after Mr. Ingman passed away. He was the last Congressional Medal of Honor recipient of the Korean War from the state of Wisconsin. With permission of Mr. Ingman's family we use the name for the motorcycle honor procession..."

The motorcycle riders meet at the Tomahawk American Legion Post 93 building at 9:00 a.m. with the ride ending at the Union Grove Cemetery prior to the ceremony.

Among the many other observances, Three Lakes Memorial Day will be observed Monday, May 27th, beginning at 10 am, with the traditional procession on foot from the Three Lakes Winery down Superior Street to the Three Lakes Cemetery. The ceremony starts at about 10:15 am.

The Oneida County observance begins at 10:30 a.m with a river ceremony at the Davenport Street Bridge in Rhinelander.  Guests may view the ceremony from Trig's parking lot. Upon completion, participants and guests will go to the Oneida County Courthouse where the final Memorial Day ceremony will begin at approximately 11 a.m.

The Vilas County ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27 at the Veterans Monument in front of the Vilas County courthouse in Eagle River.

Ceremonies in Forest county are scheduled in Crandon, Hiles, Laona and Wabeno.
