Minocqua Appoints Kim Strasburg As Town Treasurer

Town of Minocqua

MINOCQUA – The Minocqua town board didn’t have to search far, or long, to find a qualified candidate to fill the newly appointed post of town treasurer.

This week, the board offered a 3-year contract to Kim Strasburg, who has worked in the treasurer’s office the past two tax seasons. Her expanded duties begin April 17.

The board did not post the position externally as they had hopes Strasburg would accept it. “We were happy she took it,” said town clerk Roben Haggart. The appointment marks a departure from decades of having an elected town treasurer.

The town electorate voted at the April 2018 annual meeting to have the town board appoint a town treasurer rather than one elected by the voters. Strasburg will be paid $19 an hour, with office hours from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, except during tax season when they will be fulltime Monday through Friday.

The treasurer will have an assistant during the tax season. The town treasurer is responsible for the management of town funds, including collecting property tax and room tax payments.
