Minocqua Farmers Market Making COVID Changes, Looks To Future

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought changes to the Minocqua Farmers Market. The Market has a temporary home on the front of the Let's Minocqua Visitor's Bureau and Chamber offices on U.S. 51. The market traditionally has been at the Highway 70-west park.

Chamber Executive Director Krystal Westfahl says the chamber got the market going until about five years ago when the vendors decided to take over managing the market. She says the farmers need help now and reached out to the chamber to help. Westfahl says the chamber is also short-staffed, so combining their efforts made sense...

"So we have about 10-12 farmers that currently participate in the Farmers Market. We've got a reduction in staff(Chamber). So we thought why not combine our two organizations and put them on the front lawn for the remainder of the year..."

Westfahl says they're hoping to bolster the effort as best they can. She says there is some additional exposure for the market on the main road through Minocqua, but it also has some disadvantages...

"We have some struggles here. There's limited parking and we're working with our neighbors, Marthaler and Dick's Doghouse to try and find some parking solutions when they come to the market. We're asking people to be patient with us. We're kind of fumbling through the year and hoping for the best..."

The Mincoqua Farmer's Market is open Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

More information is at the Let's Mincoqua Facebook page.
