Minocqua Fire Dept. Looking To Get New Building

openclipart.org

After many years, it appears talk about a new fire station in Minocqua is heating up again.

Last week Fire Chief Andy Petrowski asked the town board to look at ways to get the department into a new building. The town board is beginning budget considerations.

Town Chair Mark Hartzheim says the department probably needs more space...

".....the regulations that the departments are dealing with these days for equipment and training are a lot different than they used to be. The reality is the space needs of the department far exceed the space they have right now...."

Hartzheim says the department was put into its current building downtown as a temporary location and they've been there he estimated four decades....

"....there's no question that probably the time has come where we can't drag our feet on the issue anymore. We authorized the chief to begin forming a building committee to look at options for a new, renovated or expanded fire barn...."

The composition of the new committee is being explored.

Electors would need to approve an expansion.
