Most OC Residents Don't Get Enough Fruits And Vegetables

en.wikipedia.org

A Northwoods health consortium has partnered with a grocery store chain in an effort to raise awareness about eating more fruits and vegetables.

Northwoods LEAN--or Linking Education, Activity and Nutrition-- has partnered with Trig's grocery stores to feature spots where displays will show people how they can incorporate more fruits and vegetable into their diets.

The co-coordinator of Northwoods LEAN is Maria Otterholt from the Oneida County Health Department. She says a study found three out of four people in the Northwoods don't have enough good nutrition in their diets....

".....Northwoods LEAN did a study and we found that 76 percent of our residents report eating few fruits and vegetables, so as soon as we saw that number we knew we had to do something about that...."

Otterholt says Trig's will provide displays featuring nutritious food called "Produce of the Month"....

".....every month Trig's will change the "Produce of the Month". It could be a fruit, it could be a be a vegetable. There's a health benefit and a recipe every month so the customer have something new to look forward to. That could be a fruit or vegetable that could be in season for our area...."

Trig's has Northwoods stores in Rhinelander, Minocqua, EagleRiver and the Village Market in Manitowish Waters.

Northwoods LEAN is a coalition promoting a culture of healthy living through physical activity and nutrition in Oneida and Vilas counties.
