Mursau Forest Equipment Bill Moves Forward

en.wikipedia.org

Legislation is moving through Madison that would remove a regulatory burden for the logging industry.

Republican Representative Jeff Mursau of Crivitz authored a bill creating width and weight exemptions for certain logging equipment, allowing users to use short stretches of roadways. Currently, no person may operate any vehicle that exceeds certain statutory size or weight limits without a proper permit.

Mursau says this legislation would allow skidders, forwarders, harvesters, and wheeled feller bunchers operating for logging purposes to travel on a highway without a permit for up to a half mile. He says the vehicle would also have to be under twelve feet wide and unladen when on the roadway.

The bill passed the State Assembly on a voice vote Tuesday. A senate committee passed an identical bill last week. The legislation can now move on to the Senate floor for debate. Mursau is optimistic the bill could become law yet this session
