NATH February Fundraiser Critical To Frederick Place Homeless Shelter

Northwoods Alliance For Temporary Housing

One of the largest fundraising events for the Frederick Place homeless shelter in Rhinelander is looking for groups to come to the event.

Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing is celebrating 8 years of serving people without shelter says Frederick Place Executive Director Tammy Modic...

"...We opened our doors on Jan. 31 of 2011 and we have never been empty. Since August we've had either 15 or 16 in the house. 16 being the max. Youngest resident was two days old, the oldest was 78. We have serviced just short of 700 unduplicated individuals since we opened our doors...."

Modic says the money goes to keep the services going for the homeless residents...

"...Just like any home operation, our utility bills rise, our insurance rises, we have all of those bills that go along with operating a home, and now have 16 people in that home. We do have 24-hour staff there and case management. One of our sayings is 'we give a hand up, not a hand out'. Although the residents do a lot for us as far as upkeep of the house, there still is that maintenance and there needs to be that support for them...."

The NATH Anniversary Fundraising Event is February 2 at the Taj Mahal, Hodag Banquet Center. The $50 dollar ticket includes prime rib or chicken cordon bleu buffet, raffles, a live auction and the popular dessert dash.

Frederick Place serves people without shelter in Oneida, Vilas, Forest, Lincoln and Langlade counties. More information is nathnorthwoods.com, telephone numbers are 715-482-7727 or 715-437-0602.
