New App Lets You See What Is Happening On State Properties

The DNR manages 1.5 million acres of land that includes parcels big and small.

Officials say it takes many people and staff to keep the land maintained. People who enjoy Wisconsin state parks, forests, natural and wildlife areas and other lands owned by the state now have a new online tool to examine how the properties are managed.

The DNR has introduced the APIP - or Annual Property Implementation Plans app. DNR section chief for natural heritage conservation, Jim Woodford in Rhinelander outlines how the app works..

"..What it provides is a way for the public to go into the search tool by county or property name, property type like a wildlife area or fisheries area. You can search all the department lands and see what work we have scheduled for this year and the next couple of years...."

Woodford talks about the types of activities available on the app...

"So it includes all timber sales, prescribed burning that we do in many counties in the state. It also has things like pesticide applications where we're battling invasive plant species and use pesticides for that. It will also show where we have farming agreements. It runs the gamut..."

DNR properties are governed by master plans, but these plans cover long periods of time, up to 15 years, and do not describe annual activities. Woodford says the new APIP tool is for people interested in what's happening on a particular property during a particular year.

This is a searchable web page available to the public. It can be found by searching the DNR website, dnr.wi.gov for keyword "APIP."
