New Mapping Approved For Vilas County

WXPR

A number of land-based grant proposals from county departments were approved recently by the Vilas County Board of Supervisors including a three-year land information plan submitted by the county Land Information committee.

Land information officer Barb Gibson explained the plan outlined what they would be doing, funded by the Register of Deeds when recordings are made. Gibson said the total cost may be near $900,000. The most expensive part will be a new aerial photo flight over all the county that is in greater detail. Gibson indicated the higher resolution images will result from a lower flight pattern which covers less an area than flights at higher altitudes.

A second grant proposal for $37,500 was also approved, this one to continue to digitize land records at a cost of $88,500. County conservationist Carolyn Scholl indicated digitizing will make the information available to the public through the internet.

Lastly, a third grant of $50,000 work toward re-monumentation
