The Nicolet College Board of Trustees recently approved the college’s budget for next year which is projected to slightly reduce the tax on a $100,000 home from $37.40 this year to $37.08.
The final tax rate won’t be known until October when the state releases final property valuation figures. The projected tax levy is based on an estimated valuation increase of 1 percent in the district. Last year valuations increased 1.75 percent.
The total budget unanimously approved by the board is $35,821,178, a 0.44 percent decrease from the previous year.
At the June 15 meeting the college reported it will receive $2.3 million in state and federal grants to continue to advance academic initiatives in 2015-16.
“The college continues to work hard finding ways to expand the job training necessary to advance economic recovery in the Northwoods,” said Nicolet Interim President Kenneth Urban.
The grant funding will allow the college to add the new Electromechanical Technician credential this fall and expand academic offerings in Information Technology, Welding, Early Childhood Education, Business, and Marketing.
The funding will also allow the college to expand use of its next-generation TelePresence technology to deliver instruction remotely to locations in Minocqua and Tomahawk. This fall Nicolet will offer 42 classes at the college’s Lakeland Center in Minocqua and 15 classes at its outreach center in Tomahawk using this technology.
