Nicolet College Foundation Hosts Run To Remember

A scholarship fundraiser Saturday remembers a Northwoods deputy who died while on duty.

Nicolet College Foundation is sponsoring the Run To Remember and Family Fun Day at the Rhinelander campus. The event honors Kory Dahlvig, a Rhinelander High School  and Nicolet College graduate who worked with the Lac du Flambeau and Eagle River Police Departments before joining the Vilas County Sheriff's Department in 2007. He was killed in a traffic crash in 2010 while responding to a mutual aid request from another department.

Foundation Executive Director Heather Schallock says one of Kory's relatives talked to her about hosting this event...

"....Melissa Lane who is Kory's cousin and she is the volunteer race coordinator. She had this vision  to honor Kory and to bring the community together and all get together and raise money for scholarships in his name...."

Schallock says other students will benefit their education from the scholarship money raised by the run...

".....certainly not exclusively criminal justice scholarships but we do  make one scholarship available to one student in Criminal Justice to honor Kory, but then we open it up to all students in all programs for the other scholarships...."

There's a 5K run/walk at the campus beginning at 10 a.m. with other races scheduled. Contact Schallock at the Nicolet College Foundation office for more information on the event this Saturday.
