Nicolet College Watching New State Concealed Carry Bill

en.wikipedia.org

Two state legislators are working on a bill to allow people with concealed carry permits to have guns on state campuses. It also would revoke an exception granted to the technical college system to ban guns on campus. The bills are sponsored by Rep. Jesse Kremer and Senator Devin LeMahieu. The bills in each chamber are in response to recent campus shootings. At Nicolet College, Executive Dean Ron Skallerud says they're reviewing the situation...

".....Nicolet College, along with the other state technical colleges,  places campus safety as a top priority for our students, staff and our guests. We work with local law enforcement and we've created comprehensive safety plans. We do regularly review and practice those plans...."

Skallerud says the college agrees with law enforcement officials that guns in classrooms would not increase safety. He says they support the current exemption to ban guns. Supporters of the change say banning guns makes students easy targets for shooters. Opponents say more guns could lead to a greater chance of violence.
