No Decision Yet On Proposed Minocqua Hotel

Town of Minocqua

An Eagle River developer will have to wait a while before learning if Oneida County will allow him to build a nine-unit hotel that has sparked some controversy in Minocqua.

The county’s Planning and Development Committee Wednesday took up GPS, Inc. owner Glenn Schiffmann’s request for a conditional use permit to build the hotel on the grounds of the former Bay View Inn and Mom's Laundromat along U.S. Highway 51 just north of the Island.

Trygve (Trig) Solberg owns the half-acre parcel, which has frontage on Lake Minocqua. The county panel wants to do an on-site inspection before rendering a decision.

The Minocqua Town Board opposes the site plan because the board feels there’s not enough parking for guests. There’s concern also about vehicles backing out into traffic from the proposed parking lot.

County Zoning Director Karl Jennrich says he will schedule the meeting, likely with Minocqua town officials in attendance. No date has been set yet.
