Northern Resort to Host Art Fair

A Lac du Flambeau resort is holding an art fair this weekend.  The event hosted by Dillman’s Bay Resort showcases artists doing one-hour demonstrations of their work.

President of Dillman’s Creative Arts Foundation Denny Robertson says the resort has been hosting art workshops since 1978…that draw locals and visitors from big cities.

“We do oil painting, we do drawing, we do pastel. We’ve gotten into a number of other different subject matter at the request of some of the students. We’ve done workshops on underwater photography, workshops in mushroom identification…”

This weekend’s event includes demonstrations from artists near and far…ranging from Chicago watercolor artist David Becker to a conversation with local poet Beth Tornes.

Roberston says it’s a chance for those involved in the arts locally to come and meet each other.

“Just generally, local artists who are maybe amateur, some of them are more intermediate and we do have a couple professional artists in the area that will attend as an opportunity to see what other professional artists are doing. So it’ll be adults that are interested in the arts, or maybe just want to see what we’re all about.”

The Art Fair is free this Sunday from 4 to 6 pm.
