Northwoods Gas Prices Not Following Statewide Trend

Luke Air Force Base

As you fill up your tank at gas stations in the Northwoods, keep in mind that not all that far away, gas customers are paying considerably less.

The website gasbuddy. com tracks gas prices in all 50 states, and has observers in most Northwoods communities.

Senior Petroleum Analyst for Gas Buddy Patrick DeHaan says gas prices are headed down...

"...Statewide average in Wisconsin today down to $2.51 per gallon. That's about a nickel lower than a week ago. Prices are about 30 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, eh, kind of stubborn in Rhinelander. Stations have held their prices in the $2.70's. I think there's some downward movement coming there..."

According to Gas Buddy, the price of unleaded in Rhinelander Thursday was $2.72 per gallon. In Minocqua the price Thursday was $2.67, and in Eagle River it's $2.66. In Stevens Point, 90 miles from Rhinelander, the price was $2.56. In Sun Prairie, near Madison, it's $2.35 per gallon.

DeHaan says the change to winter formulated gas will help bring the price down.

He says Hurricane Dorian won't affect prices much...

"...Hurricane Dorian is not affecting any refineries. Most of the nation's refineries are down in the Gulf Coast, from New Orleans to Corpus Christi. That's why Hurricane Harvey two years ago made such an impact. There are no refineries in the projected path of Hurricane Dorian..."

A traveler from Tomahawk who went to Iowa last weekend reported gas there was $2.10 per gallon.
