In some parts of the state, the unemployment level has not been this low in history.

While levels have remained stable here, the Northwoods continues to have above average joblessness.

Wisconsin's statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to a new all time low of 2.8 percent in April, led largely by historic employment levels in mostly southern Wisconsin communities.

State labor economist Mitchell Rupp in Wausau gives the jobless rates in part of the Northwoods...

"...Forest 5.7, Langlade 4.0, Lincoln 3.4, Oneida 4.2, and Vilas, 5.2. ..."

Iron county has the state's highest rate at 7.9 percent, Price county is at 3.9 percent.

Forest county's rate is the fourth-highest in the state, and Vilas county has the sixth-highest rate. The rates are comparable to numbers from one year ago in the region.

Not far away, Marathon county's rate is 2.5 percent, and in Dane county near Madison, the rate is 1.8 percent.

Nineteen of the state's 32 largest cities had their lowest April unemployment rate on record in 2018. Forty-five of the state's 72 counties had or tied their lowest April unemployment rate on record.
