Northwoods Land Trust Celebrates 14 Years

Northwoods Land Trust

The Northwoods Land Trust just celebrated 14 years of partnering with private landowners to preserve valuable natural resources in the Northwoods.

The Trust is a not-for-profit conservation organization serving a six-county region, working with private property owners through easements to preserve woods and waters.

Executive Director Bryan Pierce says two recent efforts found the preservation of  2000 feet of frontage on Pickerel Lake adjacent to the national forest in Florence county. A second project at Armstrong Creek in Forest county preserves a large barn and building built during the heavy logging era....

"....there's 150 acres of a combination of agricultural land and forest land in the town of Armstrong Creek in Forest county. That project is unique for the Northwoods Land Trust in that there's an historic preservation to the conservation easement...."

Pierce says next they will work with a property in Price county...

"....we have done projects in Vilas, Oneida, Forest and Florence counties and now we're moving into Price county to look at large parcels with large sections of natural shoreline...."

They recently moved to a new building in downtown Eagle River.

To date, the Trust has protected  9,865 acres,  68 conservation easements ,    4 conservation land donations,   23 miles of lake frontage, and  25 miles of river frontage. They recently moved into a new building in downtown Eagle River. More information is on their website atnorthwoodslandtrust.org
