Northwoods USFS Worker At Arizona Fire

KTLA TV

A U.S. Forest Service worker from Rhinelander is at the scene of the fire in Arizona that killed 19 firefighters last weekend. These firefighters were part of an elite team sent in to fight this type of blaze. The fire changed direction and engulfed the team.

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest spokesperson Suzanne Flory was in Colorado monitoring those fires when she was asked to come to the Arizona fire...

?

"....right now the fire is 8,400 acres with zero percent containment. They're going to continue to bring crews in. They have evacuations in place...."

The fire is called the Yarnell Hill blaze near Prescott, Arizona. The loss of life fighting a fire is the most in the United States since 1933. Flory says the community is still trying to figure out the loss...

?

"...everyone is very sad by the news of the fatalities. It's something none of us have experienced...pretty somber around here...."

Firefighters are regrouping and also battling temperatures around 100 degrees.
