Progress is being reported in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, also hit hard last week by flooding and subsequent damage.

Forest spokesperson Hilary Markin said they know what damage has occurred...

"...we are working through our assessments. We've completed our road assessments. We've identified nearly 100 obstructions have been identified. Places where a bridge has been washed out, a culvert has been washed out and other impacts that are a hazard to the public. We're making repairs as we go along...."

The main damage was in the Glidden area west, known as the Great Divide. The area closure has been lifted and the Forest has issued a new closure order that lists roads, trails and developed recreation areas that are closed due to the storm damage. She says they have many heavy equipment operators and engineers out on the roads making repairs, pulling out damaged culverts and putting in temporary fixes so residents in the area have access.

Markin  says a listing of changes is available on theforest website...

"....we ask people traveling in the area to visit our website, look and see what's open, and also be cognizant in the incident area as conditions are changing all the time...."
