WXPR

The Oneida County Board honored one of their own this week.

Ben Kubisiak is a senior at Rhinelander High School. He's also one of the students from Oneida county schools who sit with the county board as part of the "Teens Active In Government" program. The students participate in county board functions and vote on individual issues, but their votes are not part of the final tally.

Ben recently was honored by the Herb Kohl Foundation with a $10,000 scholarship.

County Board Chair David Hintz noted Kubisiak's honor, and supervisor Jim Winkler, a former Oneida County UW-Extension agent who helped found the Teens Active In Government program, listed Kubisiak's s accomplishments..

"..John and Katie Kubisiak are (Ben's) parents...in the fall Ben is going to be attending St. Norbert College in DePere. He's been accepted into the honors program which I think is a fantastic thing. His major is going to be history with a minor in political science..."

Kubisiak has been active with the Oneida County Board for two years. He also had been the student liason to the Rhinelander school board and a number of other activities. 188 students statewide get the scholarship.
