Oneida County to Hold Veterans Open House in Lieu of Courthouse Ceremony

PIXABAY.COM

With no Veterans Day Ceremony at the Oneida County Courthouse this year, the County Veterans Service Office is hosting an open house.

Veterans will be able to learn more about different programs designed for them.

“There’s a lot of things that we can do for them that really literally can change their lives so it’s important that they know that,” said Oneida County Veterans Service Officer Tammy Javenkoski.

Members from area veterans service organizations like American Legion, AMVETS, and the VFW will be there.

“They’re trying to educate people on what they do. They’re trying to recruit membership for their organization because membership is dwindling in every organization,” Javenskoski said.

There is also a large push right now to recruit members for the local honor guard.

“The honor guard performs for military ceremonies. They also perform mainly for funerals. And now that we do have the Northwoods national cemetery open there will obviously be more funerals so they’re going to need more people to count on,” said Javenkoski.

The event is on Veterans Day this Wednesday.

It’s at the Veterans Center Building at 1002 Coon Street in Rhinelander.

The event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Masks are strongly encouraged.
