The next house constructed by the Rhinelander High School Residential Construction class for Northwoods Habitat for Humanity will be open for the public to see Friday afternoon.
The school district has worked with Habitat for Humanity to build a home on other occasions.
Ryan Paszek is the Building Trades teacher at the school. He says the students have put much effort into making the home a reality...
"...Students from my residential construction class have been working really hard on building a full-sized home. This year they took on a 1,300 square foot, three bedroom, one bathroom home for Habitat for Humanity. They've learned all kinds of things, from framing to finishing, exteriors, roofing. Now they have the satisfaction while still in high school to say, 'wow, we built a home'..."
Nine students are involved in the project and Paszek says all of them will be going forward with careers in the trades. The ranch-style house is located at the corner of Phillip and Crescent Streets near West Park.
Paszek says it has a high-performance insulation system and should meet all the Energy Star guidelines...
"It was actually built on the school's campus throughout the school year. We built it as a modular-style home. It was built to be taken apart in two pieces with a folding truss system. A week and a half ago we shipped it out here to it's final foundation site here in Rhinelander..."
The open house is set for 3:30-5:30 Friday afternoon.
